“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things” [1]. Great leaders possess dazzling social intelligence, a courage for change, and above all, vision that allows them to remark “things” that truly merit attention. But what is leadership? Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal [2]. Paul Hersey and Kenneth Blanchard in the late 1960s described 4 leadership styles [3]. One of them was first described as coaching leadership style. According to [3] a coaching style is for people who have some competence but lack of commitment. They need direction, inspiration, and supervision because they are still relatively inexperienced. They also need support and praise to build their self-esteem, and involvement in decision-making to restore their commitment [3]. The coaching leadership style was also described by Daniel Goleman in 2002 as one of his six leadership styles [4]. The coaching leader clearly defines roles and tasks, but seeks the input and suggestions from the followers. Decisions are still made by the leader, but communication style is more two-way. The company with a coaching style will provide followers with very positive workplace enviroment that will help the employees to identify both strength and weaknesses. Coaching leaders are also able to tie together the career aspiration and personal goals. They will help the employees to see how everything fits together. And because of this ability and interest, they can help the company to develop the strategy to reach long-term goals and get a long-term productivity or in other words, this style of leadership will encourage growth and development of the organization in the future [4]. One of interesting findings of Goleman’s research was that the coaching leadership style was the least used style in the workplace [4]. That was because many leaders didn`t believe they had the time to dedicate it to help others. Years of practice and results showed these judgments to be wrong. In the entrepreneurial environment the coaching style is very successful in improving results. The investment made into employees often provides abundant returns to the leader. Superior climate and performance are achieved because coaching leaders provide very positive workplace environment and employees know exactly what’s expected of them, and they understand the overall strategy of the company. The considerable advantage of coaching style is that it never loses effectiveness over time and grows future leaders, because people never get used to do what they are told, they learn to think unconventionally. Once employees manage to do a job, they entirely trust a manager. That is, they cede authority to the manager. Although most people agree that business coaching is a wise investment, it does have a few drawbacks. Implementing coaching style takes time and patience. This leadership style will probably create stressful work environment at the beginning of the work. To succeed in the process of implementing the coaching leadership style, the coach needs to make an up-front investment in an employee in hope of getting the rewards of above average performance later on.
